The round white object was stuck inside Mulder's nose for 2 weeks. It was found and removed by a veterinarian using a fiber-optic endoscopy device.
We took him to the local vet on Monday. An X-Ray showed nothing unusual. The vet figured it was most likely an irritation that would go away. He explained the options (in increasing order of expense and "invasiveness"):
We ended up doing all 3, at 1-week intervals, at great expense.
The prednisone helped for about a day.
The flush turned up nothing, but it seemed to reduce the snorting somewhat.
The object that was finally retrieved from his nose is a hard white plastic washer, probably the backing for one of the plastic eyes of the stuffed animal. It was chewed up so that the edges were rough. The rough edges apparently held it in place in his nose. It is over 1/2 inch in diameter, much too big to pass through a nostril.
Mulder is fine now (January 1, 2000). He is not allowed near any stuffed toys.
